Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law
I was annoyed at one time with the instruction in Liber 777 titled, “Mystic Readings of the Letters of the Alphabet” which was telling me to “meditate”. Clearly, anyone with linear logic desires the sum of the equation to result in “truth” and clearly these were not truths but relatives where nothing new was added to the banquet of initiation; nor Feast digestible which might assist my growth. So, although I saw the point it yet wasn’t acceptable as an end goal. If I was to turn in my Qabbalah as Practicus to my Instructor I wasn’t going to be the type of Practicus that used this method too often but actually create a Sephira Sephiroth which involved the Coptic Alphabet. For such an endeavor I had a volume called “A COPTIC DICTIONARY” by W.E. Crum; and it was a first edition published in 1939 e.v., Oxford, at the Clarendon Press. Coptic Gematria was an idea that might be a stimulating direction much more linear than those annoying meditations on the Tarot. Of course, I have been very careful with my books where I have to this day this volume in my private library. I absolutely recommend it if you are to create a Coptic Gematria. Be that as it may, I am not as strongly against those meditations of the Tarot which was an initial reaction and not a permanent grudge. The point of bringing this up is every star upon the path shall find those instructions not necessarily included in the Oath and Tasks but part of the work of the Grade to be used to the advantage of your personal growth. Even as low a Grade as Neophyte you are instructed to choose a Divination which means some of those Divination's are out of touch with the reality of your Path. This means you choose something where you reject something else. Most certainly, I find Geomancy to exist on too low a plane but Tarot Divination with the Book of Thoth to be a never ending glorious experience. This emphasis from star to star on the Path who concentrates on different methods means you might place emphasis too much on any instruction and not concentrate enough on what will fulfill your Oath and Task that has to be your present priority. Well, like a madman have I been with those practices that would fulfill my Oaths where such questions on what to do next are really, already resolved. What type of Practicus do you want to be? Obviously, you have to dip into every method but will you fulfill your Oath and Task in the required time if you emphasize something that isn’t a priority? Of course you won’t. So I shall go over the issue of concentrating on priorities which should have been at least discussed or questioned by now. After all, who really wants to establish themselves in Hod for an entire lifetime?
The query of concentration of priorities where I break it down where you can perceive the correlation of the True Self and magical powers with initiation hasn’t been directly asked. I want to state that "I thought you’d never ask" but since you didn’t ask, and I know you needed to ask I’ll behave like you’ve asked.
A vow can unlock a lost room where your magical energy increases. My caveat is to write that vow carefully to avoid that type of foolish self sacrifice that gives you five steps forward; and simultaneously ten steps backward. A common error where you mistake a virtue in genuflect where you could have for the better took a stand. My experience is when the energy is increasing while the Light beyond Light of Initiation is shining upon you should know magically what to do. The secret door in the Third Chapter is not the only secret door.
The nature and powers of your being bring these three factors together throughout the early Oaths. You look within to observe what is there and gain peace with what you have observed recording it all in your magical diary. You are simultaneously using the Class D documents to put all under your control recording any number of complexes where you are moving away from the false self of possible environmental or dogmatic conditioning to be what you really are and not what they tell you should be. You are moving forth with an initiation of your being called the True Self. Knowing what you are, finding that certain tendencies that are latent within you see the parallel with the nature and powers of your being with the very real magical powers.
I have, in my past instruction, for clarity with astral work stated that Guardians must be met, lost rooms or secret doors must be opened and certain signs and/or Vibrated Word(s) must be used to proceed. This shall be only one way of generally describing the conquering of the astral plane. I have even gone so far as to devise specialized methods to test the Neophyte to be sure they have fulfilled the Holy Task to Our satisfaction. One item I rarely mention that I shall bring up in this lecture. That Guardians have actually been assigned by past Adepts that cannot be commanded in the usual manner; and the issue of magical powers being revealed to others have Guardians that seem to take away magical powers if you show them to others. They can be commanded to cease this Holy Task but is it too risky today? I leave it up to the aspirant. No doubt, inquisition of the past meant the torture and death of our kind. So the appointment of such Guardians made perfect sense for survival. Simply advance to the level of those Adepts who placed them to command them.
Better a stage magician to counter the reaction of doing magick in front of others whose primal fear meant the rack or the dungeon. Yet, it was never enough where those who observed display of the magical powers had dogma and primal fear erupt into them; and the issue of mob madness being, in addition, a very real factor. Other guardians that must step to side shall not step to the side until you are ready. No doubt, the officers exist in some form on the inner planes but to truly conquer the astral plane a degree of skill must exist to command the spirits. Delegation of responsibility to guardians or spirits on the inner planes means very real efforts with Liber 0. I remind the student that we are both magicians and exorcists.
Yet, guardians do exist with any number of Tasks; and the Neophyte must conquer the astral plane and deal with them depending on who they really are when the real initiation is pending. If you lose a magical power when you’ve done its magick in front of someone there are methods to restore the magical power that will be routine of process to seek out and face that Guardian changing its Holy Task to suit your will. Although this work is important as Neophyte it doesn’t end with the Oath and Tasks for Malkuth. In addition, your legion of spirits in the early days of your Path are on a lower level but those whose are appointed past and present vibrate higher. Even as the educational processes of the Outer College are not the same instruction as the Inner College from the perspective of Knowledge and Conversation of the A∴A∴. The spirits grow as you grow; or new spirits who vibrate on the higher plane you achieved through initiation shall naturally exist for you. They exist naturally as the step up in magical energy attracts the attention of more advanced spirits or even the Hierophant. As for spirits growing as you grow and vows that open doors I refer you to LIBER CCCLXX, Liber A'ash vel Capricorni Pneumatici sub figurâ CCCLXX, line 16.
We must take very seriously the advice to concentrate on each Oath and Task. What is going to pass you to the next Grade is what is written in the Oaths and Tasks.
